So now it was time for lunch. The Chinese are really on top of lunch. If it were up to me we would work through lunch. I love to eat, don’t get me wrong but, when it comes to business, i have no time for food. I am not up for a multi course affair. I brought power bars and can soldier through..But, the guys I have encountered are very regimented. Lunch is at 12 or 1230 and they start to complain and get cranky if you don’t stop working. You can certainly use this to your advantage if you are negotiating at this point. “Just give me the nickel and we can go to lunch” sort of thing.

So we are literally in the middle of nowhere. We have driven down these dirt roads through places that look like they have been hit by bombs. i am really not looking forward to eating lunch. It also scares me that we are in this rural area that has lots of farms. There are also these standing swamps where I see all these people fishing in. I am hoping that we are not eating what is being grown and fished here.. Everything is covered in this film of dust and grime.. even the vegetables.

We walk into this huge empty building and there is nothing indicating it’s a restaurant. We notice this shady sort of pile of dishes with this crude hose sticking out of a wall. I am shaking my head, as I am getting really scared. We go upstairs and sit in this empty room with a lazy susan. I have no idea we are in for.

You know, the usual.. More cold goose:

558 Elizabeth Avenue

(908)289-5533

I have been to Kylie’s Place a few times in the last couple of months.  My mother comes to have lunch with me and we like to explore various places in Elizabeth NJ.  Our most recent place has been Kylie’s Place Restaurant or Kylie’s Restaurant Place. All we know for sure is, this place is a restaurant, serving some really lovely food from El Salvador. Whether or not a Kylie exists, has yet to be confirmed.

25 Burgers
510 E St Georges Ave
Linden, NJ 07036
(908) 718-5671

Named 25 burgers after the 25 different burgers they offer, it’s a seriously good burger.  I am trying to think of when I had a better burger in recent memory..  Now, I understand, everyone has their personal favorites, some like thin and smashed, some like a nice big bar burger, this was kind of like a mix between the two.. It was super juicy, needing many napkins.. It was dressed kind of like a Cali Burger and definitely needed to be wrapped up.. Buns were hearty yet, super soft.. Loved the bun.

I ordered a bacon burger it had a ton of bacon.

Burgers came out fairly quickly, seasoned fries.. Staff was super nice. I am a huge fan.

Upstate this weekend in a lovely home in the woods, we were able to spend a lot of time hanging out and relaxing around the house.

Here we have a fritatta made from leftover chicken from the night before. There is also some guanciale and left over spinach and bacon that got tossed in to the mix. This was a 13 egg fritatta.

With the leftover rice, I made some arancini from two nights ago. it was a saffron Carolina rice. On certain days in the local grocery, if you buy 100 dollars worth of groceries, they sell you a 20 pound bag of rice for 2 bucks or something. We have so much damn rice.. i just added an egg and some mozzarella. served with this really bright tomato sauce

The misses came home last night and I wanted to have dinner waiting for her.  She was out of town for a half a week.  She arrived at Newark airport at 9 o clock which gave me about a half hour window to start the final prep.

Cow Girl Seahorse

Located in the South Street Seaport in space of the former horror show Mexican Radio, I was invited to meet for lunch here this weekend by a buddy of mine. Now my friend has wonderful taste in restaurants, music, and just in general. He is a master jeweler, studied in Italy for a few years honing his craft. Needless to say, when he picks a restaurant I am happy to oblige.

So, this weekend, my buddy calls me on the phone and tells me to meet him down here.   I hope on the g train and do not give it a second thought.  That is, until I walked past one of my favorite haunts, Jeremy’s Ale House.  I could go on for pages on how much I love Jeremy’s.  It’s a dive for sure. But, the memories I have there are amazing. Not to mention, they have a deep fryer and they are not afraid to use it. Their fried shrimp and calamari were a Thursday ritual for us.  I say a ritual because, this is also where my old bookie use to do pick ups and drop offs as well.

So, I walk passed Jeremy’s, I walk passed a place called Bin something or other, I walk passed a bunch of really cool looking places. I finally arrive at this strangely named place, Cow Girl Seahorse Tavern. I see the nautical gitchyness, the huge seahorse, the place is empty but, it will soon be packed with young kids and strollers and I am getting really nervous. I am the first to arrive so, I sit at the bar and get myself a beer.  It’s noon, it’s Sunday, it’s all very respectable.

Chick’s Seafood
230 Trumbull St
Elizabeth NJ

Cute little Portuguese Place.. I guess its pretty well known in Elizabeth.. It has changed owners a few times in the last couple of years but it still remains good.. I was sitting next to this guy in Las Vegas once at a Black Jack Table.. He was like, you work in Elizabeth, have you ever been to Chick’s Seafood.. I guess this place and a local strip club are high on the “things” to see list for truck drivers coming to the area..

They have a regular menu, but I find the specials come out more quickly…

Posted Image

We started with shrimp and garlic from the regular menu.. Garlic, wine, oil, shrimp, lemon and a couple shots of red pepper.. Whats not to love..
