So the other night, we went out for an early dinner and had some pretty darn good fried chicken.  I live in Brooklyn on the boarder of Bedstuy.  Famous for it’s rough and tumble reputation the neighborhood is going through another shift.  Young professionals and artists are moving in and new shops and business are opening up to cater to them.  Peaches is one of the places.

The prices at Peaches are really gentle on the wallet. It is such a breath of fresh air to go out to dinner and not feel like you are being ripped off. And though,  I love my own fried chicken, it is nice to get out once in a while.

I started with some cocktail.  I forget exactly what it was but, I believe it had Peach Schnapps in it.  I was reminded of the first fuzzy navel I had ever drank.  While my early drinking consisted of a stolen bottle of some astringent liquor from a parents home, the fuzzy navel was a revelation.  We were in some “wordly” friend of mines house and he came out with orange juice and peach schnapps.  Who knew an alcoholic drink could actually taste good?  Well it tasted good going down but, as they say, too much of a good thing… will have you puking in Vicky Lee’s rosebushes.

We started with their chili. It’s a huge bowl and it is very delicious.  There is a really nice underlying heat.  It tastes like there were dried peppers that were reconstituted and then blended into the sauce. Another flavor that seems to finish strong is clove.  I love clove and here it is used well. Clove does not like to play nice with others so, it’s hard to use clove and not make a dish taste like an old ladies perfume.

Topped with plenty of sour cream and chive.  It easily fed the two of us. We had to stop for fear of becoming too full. It was 7 dollars. Lots of brisket.

Finally out came the fried chicken. I ordered Nashville Hot while my copilot ordered the regular chicken. They are also extremely nice about which pieces you select. We wanted dark meat only. Two drumsticks and one thigh. The waitress didn’t flinch. didn’t say she had to ask the kitchen. she just made it happen and was super pleasant.  What a concept?  Chicken was solid B+

A sign the neighborhood is changing. The graffiti continues but, the messages are changing.
