So Mao is from the Province of Hunan and further more a little farming village called Shaoshan.. Besides farms and the birthplace of Mao, there is not much doing… So, some enterprising person decided to Capitalize on the popularity of the place and opened a chain of places featuring the cuisine of Hunan and the name of Mao.. Though, i am not for certain that the place we went to was that chain, there was plenty of references to Mao and lots of fun posters around… Fun for me, perhaps inspirational and terrifying for others..
This meal was spectacular chain or not,i think the two have different connotations.. Plus, i don’t know how well a crappy restaurant would fare carrying such a significant name in it’s title..
There is our buddy and he is ordering again, for us.. All the waitresses are in their Chinese Red Jump Suits.. Mao would have been happy..

Out come the peanuts and spicy pickled bean curd..
Fried fish and spicy salt:
Steamed bamboo that would have passed with out notice for hearts of palm.

Another run back of the cauliflower and pork belly..

This is how the Chinese get their beer from stopping to foam..pretty cool

Pork belly tied with an inedible string.. this dish is named for a famous poet Li Po.

This dish is to remember soldiers in WW2..
Bet you didnt see this one coming, huh, huh.. pretty smart..

Another celery dish. Celery scented custard..
And finally friend banana..
The restaurants cat made an appearance. scared me as it was chewing on a chicken bone at my feet.. it was friendly and sweet though..
Awesome little place.. Happy we went back there.

All of this looks totally amazing!
Thanks for reading.. As they say in the informercials, but wait! there’s more!

Wow, what a great post. I will actually be visiting Hunan Province this summer and i’m so glad I was able to get a little glimpse into one of its dining venues!
That sounds like a lot of fun. I have yet to go to Hunan Province. I have been to Sichuan which is also a spicy place, food wise. I don’t know if you have been to China in the summer, it’s hot!
I have a lot more dinners to post. Hunan Food is some of my favorite. Have a great trip!
